The NRTHRN Marathon · Coming soon · West Side Highway

A Marathon. Reimagined.

42 km of Double Poling, shared by a team of up to five, along the Hudson. A DJ, a crowd, and all net proceeds to AKTIV Against Cancer. The date lands soon.

The event
42 kilometers, together.
Double Poling on the NRTHRN Trainer

A full marathon, 42 km, completed entirely in Double Poling on the NRTHRN Trainer. Teams of up to five share the distance and trade efforts until it is done, outdoors on the West Side Highway with the water on one side and the city on the other.

Double Poling is low impact and full body, so the marathon is a real test of the engine without the joint cost of running one. Every meter is measured on the tablet, which means no team has to guess where they stand.

It is also just a very good day. Music the whole way, refreshments on site, teammates shouting at you to hold your pace, and a crowd who turn up for people they have never met.

42 km
The full distance, in Double Poling. Split across your team, however you choose to trade it.
Up to 5
People per team. Colleagues, a run club, a family, four friends and the one who said yes late.
Soon
West Side Highway, date to be announced. One day, outdoors, with a crowd who come to cheer. Put your name down and you will hear it first.
How it works
Four things to know.
01

Register as a team

One captain signs the team up. You can register with a full five or with two and fill the rest later, as long as the team is complete two weeks out.

02

Split it how you like

There is no fixed leg length. Trade as often or as rarely as your team wants, and the clock keeps running until you hit 42 km.

03

Measured in real time

Watts, stroke rate, and distance track live on the tablet, so every team can see the meters left and exactly what each effort added.

04

Anyone can do this

The marathoner and the colleague who has not trained since spring do the same event side by side. Low impact, scaled to the person on the machine.

Entry
Sixty dollars a person.

Entries are priced to fill the start line, not to profit. What the marathon raises comes from entries and partners together, and all of it, once the cost of running the day is covered, goes to AKTIV Against Cancer. Entries open when we announce the date.

Entry
$60

Per person, for the whole day. A full team of five comes to $300, split however your team wants to handle it.

Team size
Up to 5

Register with fewer and add people later. Teams need to be final two weeks before the event.

Spots
20 teams

The first New York edition is capped at 20 teams. Nothing is charged until entries open, and the list decides who gets first pick.

What the day includes
Your machine

A NRTHRN Trainer reserved for your team for the full marathon, tracked from the first stroke.

A live DJ

Music through the whole day, so 42 km sounds like an event rather than a test.

Refreshments

Food and drink on site all day, for the teams and for the people who come to cheer.

Race day support

Instructors on hand from the first stroke to the last, and a crowd along the route.

A swag bag

Every attendee goes home with one.

Your numbers

Your team's distance, watts, and splits, sent through after the event.

The cause
All net proceeds go to AKTIV Against Cancer.

Everything the marathon raises, once the cost of running the event is covered, goes to AKTIV Against Cancer. The nonprofit was founded by Grete Waitz, the Norwegian runner who won the New York City Marathon nine times, on the belief that physical activity is medicine through cancer treatment and recovery.

2026 is the first year the marathon is run for AKTIV, and the first year it is run in New York.

Physical activity is medicine.

Where it started
Four years in Copenhagen.
Now in New York.

The marathon began at NRTHRN Strong Copenhagen and has run four years in a row, growing into one of the studio's signature days, 50 or more participants every year plus the people who come to watch. In 2026 it crosses the Atlantic.

Be first to know

Get the date before anyone else.

The date is not public yet. Leave your details and you will be the first to hear when it is, ahead of entries opening to everyone else. Nothing is charged now, and putting your name down does not commit you to a spot.

If you already know who is on your team, tell us. If you do not, leave it blank and sort it later.

Questions.

When is it?

We are finalizing the date and will announce it as soon as it is locked. Leave your details above and you will hear it before entries open to everyone else.

Do I pay now?

No. Nothing is charged on this page and no spot is reserved yet. Entry is $60 per person, and we will send the details when entries open.

Do I need to have done this before?

No. Most teams have a mix, someone who trains every day and someone who signed up for the cause. Double Poling is low impact and scales to the person on the machine, and the distance is shared.

What if I cannot find five people?

Put your name down anyway. Teams can be finalized up to two weeks before the event, and we can help connect smaller groups.

How is the 42 km split?

However your team wants. There are no fixed legs. Some teams rotate every few minutes, others go long and swap less often.

Do I have to be a member?

No. The marathon is open to everyone, members and first-timers alike.

Where does the money go?

All net proceeds, everything raised once the cost of running the event is covered, go to AKTIV Against Cancer.

Can my company enter more than one team?

Yes, and several do. Email gabby@nrthrnstrong.com if you want to bring a group of teams.
